Mediterranean landscapes in the past
Mediterranean landscapes have a very long settlement history and, therefore, experience long-term human impact. While key drivers of changes in the vegetation and landscapes are highly debated, new data provide further insights in the complexity of human-environmental interactions in the region over the Holocene. Several case studies in western ( Spain) and eastern Mediterranean (Turkey) illustrate the extent of human impact on landscapes.
